Chair of the Board of Directors
Peace it Together is seeking a new Chair of the Board of Directors.
As we grow and add new projects, it is critical that we have a strong leader of the Board to direct and inspire the organization to fulfill its mission, while exemplifying its values, and building strong connections with a large and diverse community base. Key Tasks
The Chair of the Board will:
• Provide guidance and leadership to the Board and the Executive Director
• Represent Peace it Together at events and functions
• Stay informed of Peace it Together’s activities and programs and support them publicly with enthusiasm
• Enhance and extend Peace it Together public image and garner financial and other support through building relationships with other community members, groups and agencies.
• Work with the Executive Director to plan and keep board meetings focused on fiduciary, strategic planning, and generative matters, as required by board mandate.
• Work collaboratively with board members to establish overall long and short-term goals, objectives and priorities for meeting the mandate and vision of Peace it Together
• Carry out the Board's annual performance review of the Executive Director
• Ensure a process of evaluation for board members and the board as a whole.
• Set board performance standards
• Foster a positive working relation with other Board members and the ED.
• Take responsibility, along with the ED for the overall fund-raising plan of the organization
• Work closely with the ED and staff to support board sponsored initiatives and be available to the ED and senior staff for consultation and assistance as, and when neede

Qualifications
- Has at least five years of Board experience, and has preferably, previously served as a Board Chair
- Passionate about, and committed to, the work and values of Peace it Together
- Has a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in "generative" (big-picture) discussions
- Can connect Peace it Together to individuals and/or groups who would have interest in supporting and working with Peace it Together
- Knows how to empower, enroll, and engage other board members or committee members and a demonstrated track record of delegation and mentorship
- Takes initiative - will come up with ideas without guidance, and capacity to share initiatives with others and encourage constructive criticism to enhance these initiatives
- Has clear ideas and proven record about leading boards and committees in an open, respectful and inclusionary way so as to moderate and defuse heated discussions to channel passion and ideas to powerful and important ends
- Has a positive "can-do" mentality
- Communicates with the very highest qualities of empathy and respect
- Is sensitive to issues surrounding the conflicts that Peace it Together addresses
- Can build a sense of excitement among the board, with the ED and with the public
Time Commitment
- This is a two-year commitment.
- The board has regular meetings no more than once per month and generally for 2-3 hours at a time
- There will be 2 full-day planning sessions per year.
- In addition to the above, the Board Chair should expect to spend 5-20 hours per month on Peace it Together related activities.
Remuneration
This is a volunteer position.
Evaluation
By self and Board Members annually.

Peace it Together depends on volunteer engagement to make our programs a success. There are many ways to volunteer before, during and after the summer dialogue and filmmaking program.
